With NASA’s Perseverance rover exploring Mars, this year’s theme "Hemp Innovation Challenge 2.0 - The Mars Project" was selected by HIC founders to inspire hemp innovators to think outside of the box and outside the planet. As before, 2021 innovation submissions can be untested ideas or market-proven, hemp-related successes. A link to hemp’s applications beyond earth is not required. They can come from hemp innovators in universities, companies, research institutes, barns, and government agencies.

SpaceX CRS17 launched from Cape Canaveral with the revolutionary cargo, a mission organized by Space Tango in partnership with Atalo Holdings, a leading hemp growing and lifestyle company working on transformative technologies for crop science and agriculture, which supplied the seeds used for the project. CBD retailer Anavii Market served as a third-party partner in the mission, which is the beginning of a series of experiments on hemp in microgravity.
